COSTUMES TO BE PROVIDED FROM HOME
Female Characters:
Costumes:
We will be providing skirts, aprons, head scarves, and shawls. You will need to provide:
Top: A simple, casual, long-sleeved shirt or blouse; can be buttoned in the front. Light, drab colors (but not dirty) are best, preferably no white. A light stripe or print is okay. Shop thrift stores!
Socks: Black tights or long socks
Shoes: jazz shoes or ballet
Hair / Make-up:
Daughters: Can be in low pony tail or 1/2 up. They will be wearing scarves and we would like you to bobbie pin it on. Minimal make up - a bit of light pink blush, mascara and light lip gloss.
Goldes: Hair back in a bun. Mothers will also be wearing scarves on their heads. Minimal make up as well – slightly darker blush, mascara and natural colored lipstick. We may do a bit of old age make up.
Yentes: Possibly, old age make up. Just make sure to have their hair up in a bun. They will be wearing scarves that tie in front rather than back.
Fruma Sarahs/Grandma Tzietel: We will need to do hair/make up back stage since they will be playing other characters. We will keep you posted as it evolves, but we want them to be scary!
Students playing Male Characters
Costume:
We will be providing prayer shawls, vests, and caps/hats/yarmulkas. You will need to provide:
Top: A simple, casual, long-sleeved shirt; can be buttoned in the front OR a long-sleeved pull-over, such as thermal type shirts or turtle neck. Light, drab colors are best, preferably no white. A light stripe or print is okay.
Bottom: Dark colored pants (dockers/slacks - no jeans or sweat pants). Can be black, dark blue, dark grey or brown. Something they are comfortable dancing in.
Socks: Dark colored socks
Shoes: Dark jazz shoes or boots (if they have them and can dance in comfortably.
* Russians: should wear black pants.
*We will have some trousers and tops handy in case, but we want to see what you come in with. Shop thrift stores, do not spend a lot of money!
Hair / Make-up:
Male Characters: For girls playing boys, must put hair in a bun - if long enough, braid it first then put in bun. Girls playing sons can leave a little amount of hair on front sides to curl to stick out of yarmulke (will try to find a photo). No need for boys to do anything, just dry look. Everyone will be wearing a yarmulke, cap, or hat on their head.
Russians & Fiddler: No need to do anything to hair, just dry look. Fiddler Ruby can wear her hair down and all Fiddlers will wear a cap (Ruby will be the only character changing from girl to boy.
Tevyes, Rabbis, Lazars, and possibly Natchum:
These characters will have some kind of beard. I will find what we would like and let you know where to get them. We would like you to purchase this since it is a “personal item”. We may do a bit of old age make-up on them tooJ
